Sandia Panorama II

Location: New Mexico, Sandia Mountains
Size: 11" x 33"
The Sandia Mountains are the backdrop to the east from any part of Albuquerque. It wasn't until I used a panoramic format that I got the courage to try to paint them. "Sandia" means watermellon in Spanish, and the sunset alpenglow is the reason. In this painting, I tried to capture the late afternoon light on the upper cliffs, which rise 4000' above the surrounding high desert.
